Change of Title Font.

We decided as a group to change the font of the title, this was because we found that changing it made it clearer to see and had a better impact. The previous font was too small, and we were unable to change it to bold without distorting it, resulting in it looking completely different.

Script

We have decided that we would not need a voice over on the trailer. This is because the target audience is younger and fast paced current music would appeal more than a voice over as it may slow the idea behind the action down.

Final Decision on Genre and what I will include from my Research

After gathering all of our research we came to the decision that the classification of our trailer would be a 12 as very little evidence of violence, it is also a more masculine based trailer with the amount in the screen time given to males in the trailer, however the film itself if it was to be made may have some female screen time in it. The genre of the trailer is Sci-fi Action Thriller, we came to this decision as it is based on something that is not technologically real – a phone that can teleport people, it is also very action constructed, in that there are a lot of chase scenes in which the main character is shown being chased by a group of males. The Thriller element comes from the unforeseen future and not knowing what is going to happen next, leaving the audience to wonder about what could happen. We decided that we would take from research of our trailers the gradual build up of action, give the main character more screen time and allow institutional information and the release date at the end. From my poster research I have decided that I will use a similiar layout to that of jumper, which is very minimalistic and has an image of a silhouette with a tagline and very little institutional information. From my Magazine Front Cover research I have decided that I will also have a similiar layout to the film magazine Total Film, it has the title at the top of the page, an image of the main character of the film and the articles down the right hand side in an easy to read format.

Props

For our trailer we decided to dress the main characters which are male in smart suits, this was to create a male with aspirational traits that males will acknowledge, we also used a reasonably attractive male to also make females interested in the film. We wanted to create a feeling of a smart, proffesional and intellectual character which will reflect on the audience to use their intellect and work out the plot of the film.

Filming issues 2.

Another issue arose when filming when one of our group members was ill and unable to film, we then had to find someone to replace them so that we could have photos taken of us filming.

Changes to Storyboard.

We have made some subtle changes to the storyboard. We came to the decision that on the second shot of the phone ringing we would not have silence but we would have the music run over it. The second change we made was to have a dialtone when the title of the film Withheld appears on the screen. These are the only changes we have decided to make.

Filming issues.

We organised to film within the holidays but with the bad weather we were unable to take the equipment outside the majority of the time and we were unable to do as much filming as we would have liked. The weather created the enviroment we wanted to film in to be too dark which would have caused the footage to not be as good quality we would have liked. We will then overcome this by organising a different date to film.

Equipment

We will be using computers to upload our progress, download our work on, for example videos and pictures. We will also be using the computers to create our ancillary tasks.

We will be using a digitall camera to take our recce shots and our photoshoot for our magazine front cover and film poster.

We will be using a Sony camera to film our footage for our trailer alongside a tripod when we need it.

We will be using the mac to edit our footage and sound, we will also be using it to make music and add sound effects.

We will be using blogger to upload information about our progress and changes onto in order to keep track of what we have done.

We willl be using photoshop to edit images and make our posters and magazine front cover on.

Powerpoint is used to present work in a different way rather than just written.

Prezi is also another way in which we are able to present our work to make it more interesting.

Genre

After looking at other film trailers, posters and magazine, as well as combining our research and ideas together we have come to a decision to do a Sci- fi Thriller in which we will present as a teaser trailer alongside a magazine front cover and a film poster. The idea would be that the teaser trailer can be fast paced whilst giving the audience a brief insight as to what the film has to offer, we thought that this would have a stronger impact.

Further Research.

After finalising our research and looking back at our storyboard and plans it shows that our film genre is in fact Sci-fi Action Thriller as after alterations to the storyboard we took out all the psychological factors that we had included originally, making it more action based. We decided that including more action would draw the audience in making the trailer appear more realistic and appealing.

Possible Taglines.

These are the possible taglines as a group that we came up with that may be used as part of the trailer as well on the poster and magazine front cover.

'Answering to the unknown'
'Running from the inevitable'
'Living the impossible'
'Would you run the risk?'

We have made the choices all short and snappy as they appeal to the audience and are more likely to pay attention to a shorter tagline that requires little attention rather than a longer one that requires thought and a higher level of attention. Looking at other Posters and Trailers, this then follows the codes and conventions as they are usually a maximum of 4 or 5 words. For example, Jumper - 'Anywhere is possible' and Shutter Island - 'Someone is missing'.

Location Photos.

These are some images that we took of our location, we thought of a secluded place that would create a good chase scene with very few people alongside being a present place. These are easy to access so will not need any health and safety checks therefore will save time. We thought that the built up tree areas would be also good for where the main character will be transported too as part of the trailer, and create a contrast to those of the streets. We took a picture of the castle as an idea to shoot the final shot from the top of it but this proved difficult and expensive to do as it we would have to pay access as well as trying to fit all the equipment into an extremely small area, aswell as trying to get the equipment to the top this then could result in becoming a safety issue. We are now trying to find a similiar enviroment that is free and easy to do.

Possible Locations.

Today we are going to take pictures of our possible locations for the film, the areas that we have picked include; a castle, an abbey and several windy streets, which will set a good enviroment for a chase scene, with very few people around which will make the trailer seem more proffesional.

Possible Options for Main Character

For our film we tried to find a masculine character, we found 3 possible candidates for this part.

We thought these would be good because of their masculine features, clear complexsion  and their well groomed appearance, this would be good as they would follow conventions of a recognizable main character. They also fit the criteria as they are all of an average height although this is not shown in the pictures above this again would follow the codes and conventions of a good main character.

Audience Response - Market Research

1.

As part of our market research we recorded several people and their responses on the plot to our film. We asked them questions that would helps us decide what we could include in our trailer.
The questions that we asked were;
1. What type of thriller sub-genre do you think the film is?
2. Do you think the main character of the film should be male or female?
3. What genre of music do you think would best suit this type of film?
4. What makes Sci-fi Thrillers appealing to you?
5. How much of the storyline do you think should be revealed and why?
6. The title for this film is Itinerant. Do you think this title is suitable?

From this first video we can see that people thought the film to be psycho/sci-fi sub-genre this shows us that the plot we have set is quite clear to what idea we are trying to portray but could be clearer. The audience said that they would prefer to see a male main character as they would be more masculine, we will then use a male to play this part as it was the most popular choice of what the audience would rather see. The choice of music was varied, R'n'B and Electro were chosen, out of these two Electro would be the best suited, as it will be fast paced and add to the tension that we hope to create that will grip the audience. They then said that they would most like to see a twist, therefore we will try and create this but it will be very difficult to do as a teaser trailer is very short so all the elements that make up a twist may not fit in and the wrong idea may be put across. When asked how much of the plot they would like to know, they said that they would like to see a relative amount but not to give away the ending. From this we know that we have to show the basic storyline without giving away the twists and possible cliffhanger. The final question was about the title of the film ' Itinerant', as a group we came up with this name as it means 'moving from one place to another' the only problem with this is that the audience didnt tell their true thoughts on this and did not really understand what this meant. This would then be a problem for other people as they would then not understand the rest of the plot and the idea about the film.

From this audience feedback we can see that they think the film is a psychological thriller, this is similar to the response from the first couple we interviewed, and this shows again that what we are trying to show is coming across clearly with the puzzling plot. Again they chose Male to be a good main character because of the masculinity of the phone and chase. They also want the music to be used to be fast pace to create tension, I think this will be the best lines to go along in order to draw the attention of the audience. They also said that a twist would be the most likely thing they would want to see in a film; again this would be difficult to show in a teaser trailer as time is limited. They also thought that title Itinerant would be good but it would sound too harsh and people would not be able to relate it to the film, so we will have to think of a title that will relate to a mobile phone/ phone calls.

Results of Market Research

From the movie questionnaire it shows that people are quite keen and interested in the idea of a psychological thriller which will make it a good idea to carry on with the idea that we originally created as it was a popular result.

The results also show that people think Withheld is a suitable name for the film over examples such as Speed Dial and Dialtone. I also agreed with the results of the questionnaire, this is because it creates mystery as well as being a suitable link to the film idea. It is also one word which I think is the most effective element of film titles therefore we will use this title for the film.

The instruments that I will take into account for the music behind the trailer as a result of the questionnaire will be guitar, drums, piano and special FX, This will allow us to play round with different ways in making them into a fast pace theme tune for the film. This is one of the elements that people said appeal to them in a film trailer therefore will deffinitely be included along side, fast paced editing and a possible cliffhanger to make the trailer more intense in order to make people to want to watch it.

From my results I found that the most popular colour that would suit a psychological thriller poster best will be black and white therefore I will take this into consideration when designing my poster as it will add to the theme and genre of the film. It also showed that people prefer posters to be subtle and effective rather than cluttered with images and writing, therfore I will include a tagline and the date when the film is released as this is what the preference was, this would accompany the image of a full body silhouette on the poster. I also think that institutional information is important but I dont want it to stand out against the title and tagline, I will then think about including it but in a smaller font and in a different position on the page.

I will take all of this into consideration when making my poster and include all of these where I can. The only one which I personally do not agree with is out of the fonts below people chose the 4th one they would like to see the title of the film written in whereas
Personally  I think the 3rd font compliments the idea behind the film in that the iconic item is the phone and the font resembles the digits on a phone well therefore I think it would work better as the font on the poster.

Spider Diagram

As a group we created a spider diagram for examples of production names we could use in our trailer and on our posters. We came up with them by using posters and items around college to come up with them. We used the same colours to highlight which ones were similiar to each other or which ones had a link and which ones we quite liked. Although we liked all of them we wanted one that matched or was relevant to the genre of the film we are doing.  Therefore Chic Productions and Colour Productions was immediately out of the questions as we thought they would be too bright when we are wanting a darker theme. The top 3 we liked were Blue Max Production, Oaktree Productions and Lightening Works.

Analysis of a Film Poster

The Jumper poster is very simple yet effective, the subtle glow surrounding the main character implies the importance of him aswell as giving off the impression that he has some form of supernatural power. The idea of the poster is unrealistic which helps support this idea of a supernatural power as it shows the main character stood on top of a sphinx, which to any 'normal' person would be almost impossible.

The text in the top right hand corner also helps emphasize ths supernatural power that this individual may have, 'anywhere is possible', this may also be a key quote within the film, without giving too much information away to the audience. The title and other institutional information is placed in the bottom right hand corner, this then does not distract the audience away from what the main image represents. It also includes titles of other popular films that the director has made so that the audience are drawn in to go and watch it.

Analysis of Teaser Trailer.

The Harry Potter Teaser Trailer.

The trailer uses the iconic Harry Potter theme tune that has been used throughout all the series' of films. This instantly draws the audience in as the connecetion between the music and the film can be made easily.  There are several fast cuts, with a mixture of close-ups and mid shots, these help to show in detail the characters which are involved. They also arrange these cuts in chronological order, starting from the first in the series of the Harry Potter and showing the journey and the story behind all of the films, which builds up the tension to that of the final film. The fades between cuts show the passing of time, this appears to happen in many trailers therefore I think this will be good to use when making the teaser trailer. The super imposed text help to reinforce the story of the film and tells the audience what is happening in the teaser trailer, it also enhances the climaxes within the films making the audience want to go see it. Teaser Trailer also shows the date of release, production company and what format the film will be found in, this gives the audience extra information about the background behind the film, this will be good to use in my own production of a teaser trailer as it will make it more professional and realistic. The mise - en - scene used in the trailer is similiar throughout all of the Harry Potter films, the use of dark cloaks, wands and mystical animals helps represent the magical world of Hogwarts, which interlinks with the colours and font used which are dark and spooky suggesting something serious is going to happen.

Analysis of a Film Poster.

Analysis Of A Promotion Package.

There are now many different forms of marketing a film, with the film industry being so large, platforms such as facebook and twitter are used to promote films alongside many others. I am going to analyse three in detail and they are aTrailer, Website and Poster of Mission Impossible.

This Film is an Action, Adventure, Thriller, it contains fast cuts to enhance the extreme speed of the storyline, jumping from different iconic shots and action scenes, this creates intensity for the audience which I think will make the trailer I make more exciting. This ensures that the audience gets a feel for what is to come within the film. At the very beginning diagetic sound is used along with voice over, this is so that the audience can get a brief insight to the plot, this builds up an atmosphere in which the audience will want to carry on watching. As the trailer proceeds fast, racy upbeat music comes in to help reinforce the idea of the intensity of the film.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol poster

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol Movie 2011
The poster also helps contribute to the main idea of the film, with its bold colours and font it re-emphasises the sharp and quick plot of the film as it is straight to the point with the date of release and title, this will be helpful to put in my own poster as it will instantly draw the audiences attention to the poster. This links with the trailer in promoting the film as it has an intense feel with the direct information and genre about the film. The second poster also helps with the promotion of the film as it shows the name of the film and the main actor, with a flare of colour which makes the film seem more attractive for the audience to watch.
