How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
I think the combination of the ancillary tasks and main
products is effective as they each have elements of the same theme running
through them. Each of my products has the same font used for the film title and
dark setting to help portray the tense mood. The screen time given to the male characters helps
create the dominant ideology – with their intellect, about the phone and their professionalism
shown with their outfits. The screen time and images used also helps with the
representation of males making the plot and genre of the story stronger which
is effective in helping the audience understand the film. This is shown through
mise en scene, the costumes – the suits, help to create a feeling of importance
and significance , the props – the phone, are effective in making the gender of
the film obvious, as the phone is seen as more masculine which is shown in both
trailer and the silhouette of the photo used.

Alteration of Poster
After looking through all my posts I realised that i had not put a classification certificate on my poster to inform the audience of the age rating of it therfore I added it in.
How our film would relate to a narrative structure.
Narrative is the different factors in a story which brings
order and structure in a linear and sequential way from beginning to the end.
Often stories follow the same structure or have similar characteristics. I think
that our film would have a narrative structure that was open ended, in which
the audience are always left to surmise what will happen next and leave it up
to their own suggestions and ideas. This also links with the narrative of
enigma and the audience are left to solve a puzzle, for example, who is the
person that is behind the phone and controlling it and it is it actually the
phone that is causing him to disappear. Characters also have functions, such as
being a hero or a villain. For example in our film, the main character that
gets teleported would play a heroic role whereas whoever controls the phone, or
who it belongs to would take the role of the villain this creates tension and
expectation. Soundtrack is also vital in supporting narrative, in our film it
allows the build-up of speed to happen, chase scenes are often percussive, rhythmic
and up tempo then end when the climax is met, this is shown in our trailer,
when the main character is teleported then the phone line goes dead and there
is a long tone to show this.

Audience Feedback on Poster.
The title is simplistic and you can see straight away what the film is called, I think that both the name of the film on the poster and the magazine show a link between the two as they are in the same font. I dont think that I would change anything as it is not cluttered, it is simple and effective.
I like the fact the poster has a bit of mystery about it, it makes me want to watch the film and find out whats behind the poster. I think there is a link between the front cover of the magazine and the poster because the poster is an advertisement for the film and then the magazine expands on the poster. Personally I dont think the poster needs to be improved, I like it as it is.
I like the how you can't the see the face of the actor, it therefore intrigues you to watch it. The poster is dark and curious which also correlates with the title of the film, "Withheld". It allows the audience to imagine what is causing 'them' to be "Withheld". The film's tagline is also very expressive of the title and is captivating and memorable, which as a result, sticks with the audience. I also like how the poster informs you of when the film will be released. There is a strong link between the front cover and poster as the theme of dark and bold is carried throughout both. The bold blue writing used for the subheadings is a similar colour as the night sky in the picture which also displays the link between the two.
As part of the audience viewing both the front cover and poster, I would modify the font of the title on the poster to the same one used for the title of the film on the magazine. It’s really simple and this makes it easy on the eye and means that you don’t have to really concentrate to understand the poster. This means that looking at quick glance this poster is interesting and intriguing. I like how the tag line is separated and how they still follow on. The name withheld is also exciting because it makes you wonder what the film is about. This links well with the magazine front cover as the synergy with the same font for the title and also the same actor is on the poster and front cover. I would have the actors face on the poster as you can’t recognise who it is because his back is turned.
Audience Feedback on Trailer
'I liked the smooth change between each different shot, In particular I like the way it looks like they are running but it has been put in slow motion, I don’t think I would change anything as I think it links well with the poster and magazine front cover' - Michelle (40+)
'I like the way the shots change but they show the same bit of the chase in particular, I think it would have looked good with a bit in black and white, but altogether I think it is good and links with the front cover of the magazine and the poster' - John (40+)
' For me personally I found the trailer quite intriguing which captured my attention when watching the trailer and I think that it is a good feature to have. I found that the opening scene is unique and relevant to a young audience.

I like how the section fades into the next scene, and how the music is adapted to the corresponding scenes; the music gets faster as the scenes incorporate a faster pace. I also like the range of camera angles featured in the
trailer. I think the ending is really strong and leaves the audience wondering, which means they're more likely to watch the final product. Personally, I think that introductory section could be more powerful.
It links to the front cover and poster by keeping the colour theme consistent and keeping the font bold and eye catching. ' - Mia (16)
'I like the use of the different shots and angles...this is very professional. The CCTV shots are extremely effective and give an aspect of that 'real footage' look, also the 'slow motion' effect works well to give tension along. The music goes well with the narrative, again, it helps to build tension, as well as the emphasis on the phone sounds and close of the man saying 'hello' :)Audience Feedback on Magazine

Yes I think it is very eye-catching, as the black background makes the coloured font and image stand out I like it because the image can be clearly seen. If it were to be improved I would make the 'Motion' bigger and bolder as it was difficult to see.Michelle Brend (40+ years old)
Yes, I like the front cover, I like the primary colours that are used in the text. I also like the way the text and images are arranged on the page, this makes them easy to read. One fault is that the 'Motion' does not stand out enough, as I thought it was just called picture.
Mia Brend (16years old)
I like the magazine cover as the image really stands out against the black background, it draws the attention of the audience straight to the focal point of the magazine. Also, the heading of the magazine somewhat agrees with the image. I like the way that the feature articles are mentioned on the front cover, it informs the audience and could possibly attract a certain type of audience with the feature articles. The colours work well as they don't clash or bore the reader, they are vibrant against the background. Also the cloud that expresses "FREE POSTER INSIDE" also shows that the magazine is for entertainment purposes. For me, I think that the center heading could be moved or removed as it interferes with the magazine's main image and as a reader you are not focused on the writing but more on the image and therefore you don't bother reading the center heading.
Isaac Dawson (17years old)
Yes, the title is good and stands out really well, with the red line around the outsides of the magazine highlighting it and drawing the reader’s attention to it. The picture on the front is really imaginative and the way it has been photo shopped makes it stand out because it looks different to lots of other magazines. You can tell the title article is about withheld and deduce that this must be a film as the rest of the articles featured on the front cover are all about films too. By having the title and the feature article in the centre of the page this draws the audience straight to t and combined with the large this makes it very easy to read and quickly grabs the reader’s attention. I also like the fact that you get a free gift this would make the magazine more attractive to me as I would feel like I am getting for my money. I would make the title even bigger so that it would stand out on the newsstand.
